SBD DAUNTLESS - ART PRINT 20 x 24 INCH
The SBD Dauntless was designed by Douglas' famed chief engineer Ed Heinemann. Know as "Slow But Deadly" by her crews, the SBD Dauntless proved to be up to the task during the war in the Pacific. Perhaps her greatest claim to fame was the sinking of no less than four Japanese aircraft carriers during the Battle of Midway. This battle proved to be the turning point of the war in the Pacific. In addition to her bomb load the Dauntless was heavily armed with two forward firing .50 cal and one or two rear mounted .30 cal machine guns. This was an effective combination and many times the Dauntless was capable of holding her own against lightly armored Japanese fighters. Our print depicts a pair of SBD Dauntless' in a beautiful tropical setting with the brilliance a vibrancy of color characteristic of the Pacific.
